Adam was born in London in 1961 and grew up in rural England. This is where he first began to document the natural environment through photography. He experimented with different photographic processes and he eventual abandoned the camera altogether. His work is distinctive for its contemporary reinterpretation of photography's earliest techniques. This was particularly the camera-less method of photogram. He believes that in order for any photographic technique to work, it should be personalised and engage processes that take place in the natural world.

Fuss is best known for his life size photograms of water. He deliberately distills the essence of photography with a flash of light on a sensitive surface, which emphasises themes of transformation and perception. His contemporary photograms of moving light, live creatures, and organic things.

He has lived and worked in New York City since 1982. His work is widely shown in many American and International collections.

As well as black and white photograms he also creates photograms in colour using sliver gelatine print medium. Adam's work is usually compared to early 19th Century "Sun print" photograms rather than camera-less darkroom techniques. He trained as a commercial photography.
